MUSIC ACTIVITIES
13 May 2004
Eileen Martin, F.C.J. Secondary School Secretary and Board Member of the Anthony Kearns Music Fund, reports that the School had "a very big Band day" on the 13th May 2004. "It ended up as a wonderful day - we collected 3,020 euros for the Philippines! and we had 150 very proud and delighted musicians." Below are the concert announcements and programme leaflet. As you read through the names, the song selections, and background information, keep in mind that the Music Fund played a small part as well through its support of the music program at F.C.J.

MARGARET SHEEHAN, an Irish F.C.J. Sister
works with children
living on the streets of the City of Maasin in the Philippines.
The money raised today will help Margaret to pay for necessities for the children - food,
shoes and clothes. The funds raised by the Band last year were used to get school uniforms -
street children are not allowed access to education unless they are properly dressed, even
though they are living on the streets! In her work with the children, Margaret is trying to
devise a programme in which their lives will have some semblance of normality. Recently
she was instrumental in getting a house, which is safer and allows her to offer better
accommodation and care for them.
Whatever is being done seems at times to be just a drop in the ocean of pain and
helplessness. Yet, "if we can help improve the life of one scavenging child or two or three, maybe it helps towards breaking the cycle of poverty. And they in turn may help others."
