April 15, 2007 marked the beginning of a week-long musical exchange between the F.C.J. Band and the Mount Saint Charles Academy Band from Woonsocket, Rhode Island --- this time on Irish soil (see “The Exchanges” at the end of the programme notes below). One of the many highlights of the week was a joint band concert at the National Concert Hall in Dublin to celebrate this musical link. Anthony Kearns, as a past pupil of F.C.J., has made a special guest appearance at several of these exchanges, including this most recent concert. Along with the concert programme shown below, F.C.J. Band Administrator, Eileen Martin, was kind enough to share the following report:
“The exchange itself was a wonderful success. Ireland basked in sunshine and heat for a whole week!! While reports from R.I. talked about wind, cold and rain! Whether it was the weather or what, the kids got on great together, all 430 of them!! [We set out for NCH in 10 buses] And we had a marvelous time on Inis Mór.
“I am enclosing a copy of the programme for the NCH – April 16th. Anthony was superb – sang ‘You Raise Me Up’ and ‘Time to say Goodbye’ …. Not a dry eye in the house – because Gearóid is going in June!”
