IRISH TRADITIONAL MUSIC PROGRAMS
KILTEALY CHAPTER OF COMHALTAS CEOLTOIRI EIREANN
On August 23 the two qualifying music groups from Kiltealy (official names: UNDER 12 CEILI BAND and UNDER 15 GRUPAI CEOL, CCÉ Mount Leinster, County Lock Garman) competed in the All-Ireland Fleadh in Clonmel, County Tipperary. With participants coming from Ireland, Scotland, Britain, Wales and the United States, the competition was stiff.

Final results: the Ceili Band placed third (3rd) overall!!!

The Anthony Kearns Music Fund congratulates all the musicians who took part in this most prestigious competition that began last May at the local level. For anyone interested in looking at final results, go to: http://www.comhaltas.com/fleadh/eireann.htm. I think you will agree that, given the impressive field of competitors, our young musicians in Kiltealy did themselves proud. We celebrate their successes, and we hope the joys derived from making music last for a lifetime!
ALL-IRELAND FLEADH
(National Level)
23rd August 2003
LEINSTER FLEADH
(Provincial Level)
11th - 13th July 2003
Betty Kearns reports that two of the C.C.E. Kiltealy Chapter's children's groups placed at the Leinster Fleadh (provincial level) and will be going on to the All-Ireland competition to be held in Clonmel, County Tipperary, on August 23rd (note location change from what was previously reported).

· Under 12 Ceili Band (10 musicians or less) - 1st Place
· Under 15 Grupai Ceol (20 musicians or less) - 2nd Place

When asked (tongue in cheek) if it is the new practice piano, partially funded by the Music Fund, that is responsible for these good results, Betty gleefully replied, "Of course it is!". The Anthony Kearns Music Fund congratulates all the young musicians who participated in this highly competitive Fleadh. You have done yourselves proud! For those advancing to the All-Ireland event, much good luck and have fun!
COUNTY WEXFORD FLEADH
(County Level)
18th May 2003
The C.C.E. (Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann) Kiltealy Chapter's children's groups are continuing their winning ways (remember the Under 12 yr. Ceile Band took first place in a local competition on May 4). Word has just come in that 4 of the children's groups did extremely well at the County Wexford Fleadh held in Ferns on May 18.

· Under 12 Ceili Band (10 musicians or less) - 1st Place
· Under 15 Ceili Band (10 musicians or less) - 1st Place
· Under 12 Grupai Ceol (20 musicians or less) - 2nd Place
· Under 15 Grupai Ceol (20 musicians or less) - 1st Place

Because of their successes, these groups have qualified for the next level of competition, the Leinster Fleadh (provincial level), which takes place in Kilcock, County Kildare, from July 11-13. If they continue their successes, it's on to the All Ireland competition which takes place in County Offaly this year.

Apparently, some soloists also placed in the County Fleadh, so they will be competing in Kilcock as well. It is these very groups and individuals who are practicing with the "new" piano the Music Fund helped purchase this past spring. Isn't is nice to think that the Music Fund played a small part in helping them along the way!
