Perhaps the notes above are not a total reflection of this past year's Music Fund activities, but it was definitely "The Year of Establishing Sound Legal Footing". The Music Fund became a "non-profit corporation" after operating for the first 18 months of its life as an "unincorporated association". This involved a tremendous amount of legal work (obtaining a license agreement with Anthony Kearns, recruiting initial directors, adopting a code of regulations, and electing officers, among other things), all of which was done, free of charge, by the Milton A. Kramer Law Clinic Center of Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio. Other than a few long distance phone calls and some postage fees, the only expense incurred was a $125 Non-Profit filing fee to the Ohio Secretary of State.

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank Professor Kenneth R. Margolis, Attorney at Law and Co-Director of the Kramer Center, for helping bring the Music Fund to its present legal status. Additionally, I would like to thank the student interns (3rd year law students at CWRU School of Law) who, under Professor Margolis's tutelage, worked so diligently on the Music Fund's behalf.

As this report is being prepared, the Music Fund is working with the Kramer Center to obtain tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service. This is a very significant step for the Music Fund as it looks to the future. Barring any complications, the Music Fund hopes to receive word of a determination by mid to late summer. As we approach this milestone, I want to thank you for your past support of the Music Fund. Your generosity has helped the Music Fund continue its mission to instill a love of music in young people. What has been and what is to come is all because of you.

Thank you.

Godspeed,

Priscilla ("Cilla") Horst, Executive Director
