VERONICA DUNNE INTERNATIONAL
SINGING COMPETITION
Established in 1992, the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition bears the name of Ireland’s premier singing teacher whose vision it was, and is, to encourage talented Irish singers to compete internationally. Today the Competition is a major international event with many of its first prize winners and finalists going on to highly acclaimed musical careers, Anthony Kearns among them.
When the 2007 Competition was in the planning stages, Anthony Kearns asked the Music Fund if it would entertain the idea of sponsoring one of the monetary prizes for this competition. Given Anthony’s passion for opera, his admiration for Veronica Dunne and his sincere commitment to helping aspiring opera singers, this request seemed both reasonable and appropriate. In the spring of 2006, the Board of Trustees of the Anthony Kearns Music Fund approved the funding of a €3,000 prize for the Best Male Singer of the Competition to be awarded at the 5th Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, January 19-25, 2007.
Because replenishing the Music Fund coffers is
a constant challenge, donations are always welcome and appreciated.
